RAF - SAR - Service Records

Postby jmbrighton » Fri 06 Nov 2009 20:09

Have any other members requested their service record using the Freedom of Information Act? I’ve just done so for both my partner and I. It will be interesting to see what we receive.

I’ve asked for the following:

• Dates of arrival at RAF Swinderby for basic training.
• Dates of arrival for trade training.
• Dates of first posting.
• Dates for detachments while at first posting {RAF UPAVON} along with bases detached to.
• Dates of posting to RAF Laarbruch.
• Reason for posting to RAF Gutersloh from RAF Laarbruch two – four weeks after arrival. {although it was never mentioned, I had an encounter with a REME lad at Laarbruch :D … days later I was sent to RAF Gutersloh a bit sharpish}.
• Dates of detachments from RAF Gutersloh together with names of bases.
• Dates of posting from RAF Gutersloh to RAF Staff College Bracknell.
• Dates of detachments from RAF Bracknell together with named bases.

I’ve also asked for any general notes.
Any others done the same?

Hi Jeff,

I asked for all my confidential officers' reports and medical records (for the period 1972-92) several years, using the RN SAR. They took a while (about 6 months I recall) - but photocopies of all duly appeared in a large brown envelope! I confess that I was really rather surprised - but re-assured too! My GP (who I unloaded the latter with) was the most surprised though!

Best wishes,

Patrick
